Nothing too special today.

I got on the upright bike to warm up. I couldn't do the power bursts, since I was having trouble breathing. I coughed throughout most of the workout again. I did some pilates afterwards, through the ab series, at least. Weighted walking lunges, plie squats, lunge with oblique twist. Leg Ext/Curl. Abductor/Adductor. Leg Press. 180-lunges on the step each leg (20x). Crunches. That's about it. Light day. I also let Chris know that I wasn't going to train until June. I felt bad not getting back to him sooner, but everything has been a little crazy lately. It's best to just put it off until after the marathon when I can fully focus on strength training.

I think half my calories really are coming from gatorade mix now. I'm not that hungry. I eat citrus, drink gatorade, have something fiberful at breakfast. I need to get back on track though. I'm trying to stay green with protein!

Weigh In

Measurement Check-In

Bust: 34"
Waist: 29"
Belly-button: 33"
Hips: 40"

Weight: 154lbs

My jeans have been fitting more loosely lately. I've been eating more. More carbs actually.

I've been sick all week though and not working out much. Yesterday I ran 16 miles, but had to give up before I hit 20 because I was coughing so badly and energy drained from being sick. Today I ran 4 miles into the gym. I swam for 45 minutes. I did some upper body, then jogged another mile or so to the grocery store. I'm still coughing up a storm. But I did my weigh-in while I was at the gym and was shocked to discover how light I was!

One of the girls in my muscle conditioning class commented on how great I looked the other day, citing my weight loss at like 20 lbs. Ha. I brushed it off. Maybe a little leaner, but not lighter. I never lose weight. My body refuses to give up the pounds. But sure enough, I weighed 154 this morning. Wow! That's the lightest I've been in years. I don't think I even reached that two years ago when I wasn't eating. And now I eat all the time! I guess it's probably the excessive running and the muscle - my metabolism must be up. Anyway, I'm excited, pleased. Need to keep it up.

Oh, I also dropped down to 60lb assistance on the assisted pull-up machine today. I was excited, but then I realized that because I weigh less now, I'm not actually pulling up any more weight. :( Damnit.

I've been sick for the past three days. I ran on Tuesday, 4 miles in 93 degree sun at noon. And I haven't done anything since. I'm a serious mess. It's in my chest and I'm just overall fatigued, so its not one of those colds that I can just exercise through and feel better.

I'm really frustrated. I've done some free weights at home, some push-ups, but its really hard to breathe, so they don't last long. Pilates is all on the back, so all I do is cough.

I hope I feel better by the weekend. :(

Week or two review

I keep not updating. Things are still going. I mean, by my wacked out standards, the past two weeks have been a wash. But by normal standards, I did work out most days.

Let me see how far back I can remember - a lot of its been running stuff, which I don't talk about a whole lot here. And I stopped recording my nutrition after Chris told me that I wasn't eating enough calories. That's right, when I said I ate like 1500-1800, he was like "you're not eating enough at all." And he knows I'm trying to lose the body fat too, so I guess he's just really smart and I am working on the naive logic of calorie control. So I started eating more - or at least more calorie-dense things. Okay, not healthy stuff. I admit it. After my dental appointment two weeks ago, I discovered the McDonald's coffee milkshake, which is insanely incredible. I had two that day for my meals, so my face was half numb and I kept biting my tongue when I tried to chew. It was also Easter, so my mom is always fantastic with healthy well-balanced meals. It's kind of cool that as my parents get older they not only eat healthier, but eat a lot more veggies and in lesser quantities. It's even more exciting to go home. My mother is just as excited about spinach lately as I am! And they always have bulk quantities of berries and fruit that they get at Sam's Club.

Anyway, my workouts in backwards order:

Today: Bootcamp class (3 circuits of 4 exercises (25rep-20rep-15rep-10rep) including my favorite 8-count body builders, burpees, mountain climbers, push-ups; quick abs at end) + upper body (cable work for tri/bi/delt/crossover, bench dips, pull-ups (military/narrow) and dips 10rep each at 65lb asstd in a row!; row/chest press SS mid-10rep); 4 hours sleep; 1 strawberry chobani greek yogurt 6oz;

Yesterday: 8:15pm-9:30pm lower body workout (jump squats on the box!! and most of my usual walking lunge/squat routine; leg ext/curl midweight 10-rep SS x4; leg press 12rep, 90-100-110 glute + quad; off-step lunges 360deg;

Tuesday morning: 3 mile run (25:12); Sox game that night

Monday: Nothing at all. I didn't even fantasize about working out. Okay, maybe I did fantasize about it a little bit, I can't help it.

Sunday: 18.5mile run + 3 mile walk home; hurting and tired out too quickly; 6hrs sleep; only 10oz on me due to the hydration pack disaster; 32oz gatorade after plus water; sunny day around 50 degrees - got sunburned (time for sunscreen!); wore Saucony Triumph 5s - new blister on left foot, 2nd smallest toe - brutal by mile 10 even through the moleskin; Nike bottoms, green nike tank

Saturday: 0.5 mile run when hydration pack broke!

Friday: Nothing at all, dental work and travel

Thursday night: Muscle Conditioning (w/Catherine);

Thursday morning: Bootcamp (partners, an easier class), upper body

Wednesday night: 6 mile "fast" run down to BU bridge and back; really dark and scary after 8pm and turned around (note to self: go earlier if you want to do a loop down to the JFK bridge); not as fast as I thought I was though - sprinted back quicker though given fear of being mugged/raped/attacked by squirrels

Daily Review

This was definitely one of those days when I might have maxed out my push-up capacity. Highlights:

45 seconds of push-up on step
30 seconds of push-ups feet on step
15 seconds of oblique twist push-ups
30 seconds of push-ups on step
15 seconds of oblique twist push-ups

Inchworms with push-ups (2.5 minutes)

24 slow push-ups

I've done more, but it just seemed excessive today. I think it was actually only totaling around 110. But in combination with other upper body and full body exercises, I was kind of wobbly in the end.

Otherwise, today felt great. I pushed hard over 6 miles last night, although in spite of my efforts, again my pace was about 10 second/mile slower than usual. It was getting late and I felt unsafe, or I would have completed the full loop around the river.

I got to bed earlier last night, and got up for bootcamp in the morning. It was partners exercises will 45-30-15 second reps with increasing intensity. A good class today, I felt strong and capable. I love that she gave me the Louie DeVito albums, since I now know all the music when she plays it.

I followed class with upper body. I dropped 10-15 lb on everything and did 12 rep sets. I'm still successfully doing 65-lb assisted pull-ups. Once I can complete several sets in a row at 10 reps each, I'll drop it down to 60. I could definitely do 60 at this point, but not very many. I want to be able to do several sets to completion before I drop this time around.

I was just going to go running after work, but I managed to score a spot in muscle conditioning tonight. I was therefore going to go lighter, but ended up doing the usual 8lb and 10lb free weights and the yellow bar. It wasn't a bad class. Three sets of jump squats, some high reps with the bicep curls, compound movements.

Falling behind!

Quick Workout Summary:

Tuesday - 3.97mile run in 34:49 - disappointing, thought it was faster, cold, dark day, perfect. Upper body after, ast in 30 min with heavy 6-8 and increases on chest press and shoulder press; 70lb asst on pull-ups getting easier
Wednesday - 8 mile (7.79ish) in 1:09:16, with splits of 34:46 and 34:39. The first one lethargic with sprints (two lampposts!), the second just steady; very little lower body afters, kinda pooped and quads hurting

Core Training Monday

It's Monday and back to calorie counting! I know that I should probably count on weekends, but I don't go hog wild or anything. It's just less convenient and I don't want to stress myself out seeing how much I eat in conjunction with my long run.

Anyway, here we go again. I did some good grocery shopping this weekend, so hopefully I can streamline my ratios a little better. I'm trying/hoping to add more fat in along with my protein. I don't want to give up my fiber/protein-rich breakfast, however. It really carries me through the day.
